Overview of the Summer Camp in Cebu
The summer camp at Winning language school in Cebu ran from June to August, catering to students aged 6 to 18, including elementary, middle, and high school students. This year, there was a notable increase in high school students attending solo study abroad programs during the summer break.
Winning offers junior and family camps during summer, winter, and spring breaks. This English immersion program is aimed at families, middle school students, and high school students.
Elementary students participate in a youth course, while middle and high school students join a junior course. There are specific enrollment dates, and the camp duration can be either two weeks or four weeks. Students immerse themselves in English during the weekdays and enjoy leisure activities on weekends. As a Taiwanese-owned language school, the environment is multicultural with fewer Japanese students, allowing participants to learn English while engaging in international exchanges. Japanese staff are also present to provide support if needed.
This marks the eighth summer camp organized by Winning. We would like more people to experience it, so let me explain the details.
Flow of the Summer Camp
Day 1 (Sunday)
Participants arrive at Cebu Airport on Sunday. School staff will be waiting at the airport exit. Once everyone has gathered, we head to the school.
The city campus is about 40 minutes from the airport, while the ocean campus is around 20 minutes away. After arriving, students have free time.
Meals during the stay in Cebu are included in the summer camp fee. The school offers buffet-style meals supervised by a Taiwanese chef, which are very popular among Japanese students.
Day 2 (Monday)
The Cebu study abroad experience officially starts on Monday. The day begins with orientation and an entrance test at 8 AM.
After the exam, there’s a welcome party where students introduce themselves and participate in simple activities to deepen their friendships.
The proceedings are led by Filipino staff, so participants can feel the lively atmosphere of the Philippines.
In the afternoon, there are four trial group classes. In the evening, school staff will accompany students to a nearby shopping mall for currency exchange, shopping, and SIM card setup.
Day 3 (Tuesday) and Onward
Starting Tuesday, classes begin in earnest. The daily schedule is as follows:
English classes consist of one-on-one lessons and group lessons, with the number of classes varying by age. The curriculum is based on official Cambridge materials and is determined by the results of the initial level assessment.
During the summer camp period, there are many students, so classes are often held in booth-style classrooms, creating an open learning environment.
From Monday to Friday, students are immersed in English, ensuring thorough learning.
Graduation Ceremony (Friday)
On Fridays, there is a graduation ceremony after classes. Graduating students will deliver speeches.
Weekends (Saturday and Sunday)
On weekends, the school organizes activities and tours. These are optional for general students and come at an additional cost, but for summer camp students, these weekend tours are included in the fee, and everyone participates together.
Activities include island hopping, whale shark watching in Oslob, visits to safari parks, amusement parks, volunteering, aquariums, and shopping malls, rotating throughout the weekends.
Students can fully enjoy the attractions of Cebu on the weekends.
(Participants typically join tours and activities organized by the school.)
Airport Transfer (Saturday)
Saturday is the check-out day from the school. The camp includes airport transfer arrangements for students. Students bid farewell to their classmates at the school.
Messages from Participants
The summer break is indeed busy (laughs). However, many participants return, and it brings me great joy to see everyone happy. Here are some selected feedback comments.
S.K. (Family Study Abroad, 2 Weeks)
Although it was a short time, I am truly grateful to the staff and teachers for all their help. My daughter was very energetic, and I hope she didn’t cause too much trouble for everyone, but it seems she had a wonderful time. Thanks to everyone, we were able to complete the two-week summer camp successfully. If we have the opportunity to learn English in Cebu again, we would love to seek your assistance at Winning.
High School Student (Solo Study Abroad, 17 Years Old, 2 Weeks)
Winning has a lot of non-Japanese students, making for a very good learning environment. The Filipino teachers are very friendly, and I really enjoyed the one-on-one lessons. The meals were delicious too. I also loved seeing the whale sharks up close during the Oslob tour on the weekend.
High School Student (Solo Study Abroad, 14 Years Old, 2 Weeks)
I studied abroad at Winning last summer, so this is my second enrollment. There are many students from Taiwan and the Middle East, allowing me to interact with people from various countries in English. I also like the homey atmosphere. I enjoyed the school’s sports festival, Family Day, during the summer break again this year. I hope to come back next year if possible.
Mother of High School Student (Solo Study Abroad, 16 Years Old, 4 Weeks)
I was able to pick up my daughter safely at Narita. I am sincerely grateful to everyone for taking care of everything. Thanks to your quick response during emergencies, my daughter returned home having grown even more. She seems to have created many wonderful memories, which is truly great! I would like to recommend this to my friends.
